- Greener Gardens Promote Healthier Residents -
How can gardens boost your mental and physical health?
Hedges require their fair share of maintenance in order to look healthy. To stay within their bounds, they need pruning and general maintenance. Their pruning times vary as hedges are often made out of different varieties of trees and shrubs, so it is key to know when and how this should be done effectively.
Pruning is required to stimulate your hedge. It is recommended that pruning is performed for the first two to three years after the hedge has initially been planted and carried out either in winter or spring. The reason for doing this is to prevent dying or pest-ridden branches from harming neighbouring plants, allowing the hedge to blossom.
Maintenance trimming refers to the tidying up of a hedge by cutting down overgrown branches. It is recommended to do this once or twice a year between spring and summer as overgrowth reduces the amount of light and moisture it receives, therefore affecting its growth.
